95 SL1 Oil Burning97ConcordeLX 04-07-2007, 07:41 AM I have a 95 SL1 with a major oil burning problem. The smoke is blue so i'm thinking the rings are bad and not the valve guides. I tried a piston ring soak and that worked for awhile but i'm thinking about putting new rings in it. I did a cavalier years ago without pulling the engine can the saturn be done the same way? I'm looking to do this cheap because i'ts a beater car. What do you guys think? .........Thanks drew300 04-12-2007, 04:05 PM I'd try a few more ring soakings before i went to the trouble of replacing the rings. If it's a beater, I'd try "no-smoking syrup" in the oil and be done with it. I had some Bosch Platinum pluga that dropped their insulators into the engine and scored the walls. I ran syrup for a couple of years. 97ConcordeLX 04-12-2007, 09:41 PM Well I changed the oil the other night. I put in 15w40 rotella and so far so good. Very little smoke if any.I will let you guys know if it changes back Thanks for the reply Mines69Olds 04-16-2007, 08:03 PM How much does it burn. Lets say something like a quart every 300 miles or what. I bought my 95 for 400 bucks and it was burning then and I put about 30,000 miles on it and i'd like to say it gets 300 miles per quart but that is actually pushing it. 97ConcordeLX 04-16-2007, 08:21 PM It was burning a quart every 300 miles smoking real bad. I used to put everyones drain oil in it. Now its not burning much at all with the rotella. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
