Hey I have a 93' grand cherokee and recently changed the spark plugs, when I pulled them I compared them to the back of my repair book and it said they are getting too hot. I was wondering what could be the cause of this so that my new plugs dont get burned up nlike the alst ones.

What plugs were you running and do you dump a lot of aftermarket stuff in with the fuel? Lucas, STP, Marvel Mystery oil etc?

I dont know what kind of plugs they were, they were in when I bought the jeep, and I dont add any anything to the gas at all.

My suggestion, try to buy the original plugs to put back in, if not the original then make sure to ask that the plugs are of the right heat for the engine or like the originals. I say the plugs you pulled out were not the originals and someone put the wrong plugs in unless you bought the Jeep new, then I would say what octane gas are you running?? High octane gas can cause your plugs to burn at a higher temperature. Plugs are bought with different temperature ratings, that way you can buy a high temp plug for use with low octane gas and a low temp plug for high octane gas. To high a plug temp can "burn" a hole in the top of your piston(s).

What engine do you have and do you still have the old plugs?

Pretty sure there's a sticker on the rail in front of the radiator that tells you what plugs.

I use Autolite 985.
