Hi ,
My wifes 1999 300 m shakes really bad when she starts it , if it sits for a good period of time , like 2 hours or more it starts up fine , but if she drives somewhere and lets it sit for a short period of time and goes to start it the engine seems like it's going to shake out of the hood . Any ideas on what could cause something like this ? it seemed to do fine untill recently when the weather started warming up . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated , Thanks

Is it a hard start? Like no fuel or the starter? Or is your problem after it starts with a rough idle?

The car starts up fine , not a starter issue . When it starts the whole car shakes as in a rough idle , low rpm's so she has to put her foot on the gas to get the rpm's up before she can put it in gear , and then when in gear it shakes again and she has to really give it gas to take off , but then once it gets going it runs normal . I read on here where someone posted how to get your codes from turning the ignition on and off three times within 5 seconds and I tried that and it didn't work on her car . I was thinking maybe a bad sensor ? Thanks for your reply

To find codes, yes, turn the key as far "on" as possible WITHOUT ACTUALLY ENGAGING THE STARTER. Do this three times, then leave it "on". Look where the odometer reads the mileage. It will go through its "cycle" and show codes like P0 151 and the like. Watch carefully for all of the codes. It will tell you when it is done ("done"). Write them down. If you can't get codes it does sound like a bad or going bad fuel pump. See if you can get codes.

Two WHOLE posts and tinman didn't try and get everyone to checkout his other 300m website........that's gotta be a record. Keep up the good work tin.

ANYWAY, I have a '99 and I get the codes no problem. I first listed the post describing the method of retriving your trouble codes for your car. It will help greatly and it's VERY easy to do. Can't see why you're having a problem with it.

From the "off" position, turn key all the way "on" without starting the car. You don't even have to do it that rapidly, just do it all in under 5 seconds. "off" then "on", off/on, off/on and the third time you leave it on "on" and codes should appear where your digital odometer displays your car's mileage.

Please report back the codes.

I was wondering if you ever found the problem with your wife's car. I have a 1999 300 that I don't drive that much but took it to town last week on super hot day and came out from shopping car started right up and felt like it was running good but when I put it in gear it felt like it was running on three cyls. Put it in neutral and back in gear and was fine. Never did it again that day. The only code I get is 1684 that the book said means batt disconnected within last fifty starts which is true. The car starts and runs great but acted just like yours.
