Do you have to drop the trans to replace these sensors? My 2000 Malibu 3.1 will not shift out of 2nd. It shifts from 1-2 just fine, but not 2-3. I have been dealing/driving this for a while now, thinking I need a new trans, but fter reading this, I was hoping just a sensor. I had it checked before, and my mechanic says, the computer shows it shifting, but it is not physically shifting!

Thanks...

Before anything is done it should be scanned at a trans shop for solenoid functions and slippage errors and codes, then if the solenoid/s show bad the side cover must be removed, about a 5 hr job done by a pro with the proper shop equipment.
