any chips out yet for a 1996 riv?graygoose 03-18-2007, 03:19 PM Hey there I was wondering if there was any perfomance enhanceing chips or anything yet for a s/c 1996 buick riviera cause I would really like to get rid of the limted 105 mph! thanks 96riviera18 03-18-2007, 05:44 PM the riv is actually speed limited to 108mph (every speedometer reads a little bit off tho). there is no direct chip for the riv of any year :( and do not fall for the ebay "chips" they are a waste of money and dont do anything helpful. the only way to remove the speed limiter is to get a DHP powertuner or something similar to retune the pcm and change the speed limit. but the good news is that a tuner will do anything you want :D matthew HotZ28 03-18-2007, 08:37 PM The 96 is OBD II and does not use a "chip". The PCM has to be "reflashed" with any changes. Easy to do, if you have the equipment to do it. Contact Brian @ pcmforless.com (http://www.pcmforless.com/) Brian & Alvin did several PCM and "chip" upgrades for my cars, with excellent results! dreww 03-30-2007, 11:53 PM the riv is actually speed limited to 108mph (every speedometer reads a little bit off tho). there is no direct chip for the riv of any year :( and do not fall for the ebay "chips" they are a waste of money and dont do anything helpful. the only way to remove the speed limiter is to get a DHP powertuner or something similar to retune the pcm and change the speed limit. but the good news is that a tuner will do anything you want :D matthew actually, at least on my PT, the limit is set at 102mph....yawn just get the tuner. but you cant program the transmission much like the 97+ models. no performance shift options. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
