How many brake lights for Venture?

Hi,

Does anyone know how many lights are supposed to light up with the brakes on the Venture?

Here's what mine look like, on both sides from top to bottom. The numbers are the bulb numbers.

3057, brake lights up, parking lamps
3056, turn signal
3056, parking lamps
3057, parking lamps, no extra light when brakes pressed.

So, only one light gets bright when I depress the brake pedal on both sides, and on both of my ventures. My brake light went out, and when I opened it up to change the bulb, I noticed that the top and bottom bulbs are the same numbers.

My question is why the top and bottom bulbs would be 3057, but only the top lights up. Am I supposed to have two bulbs on each side light up with the brakes? I need to change one of them, but if I need to have two on each side, then I'll need to purchase more bulbs. Please let me know what is supposed to happen.

Thanks,

LMP

Indeed the filament of only one of the 2 3057 bulbs is connected to the circuit.

It is like you have a built-in spare brake light...when the top one ceases to work when braking, then you switch one for the other and you are back to legal status....did GM really think of that?......mmm....not sure. I'd think they goofed and you can just make a profit out of it.....use it for immediate solution and replace the "spare" as soon as you can so you keep it as a real option....
May be also they have the same unique cluster used with different configuration depending of country where the car is destined to be.

Thanks,
Next time, I will just swap the bottom and top light bulbs, both 3057.

I wonder, though, if the bean counters just figured that the replacement bulb are sold in pairs, and that this would be easier for the consumer? Just to purchase one pack and have a pair. Otherwise, it makes absolutely no sense. But its GM...many design features makes you wonder what they were thinking...for example, in my 99 venture, the front cupholders are on the inside of the front passenger seat, where the net between the two front seats hang. You can't use both at the same time. What were they thinking?

On top of that...the notorious air filter, battery R&R issues, and needing a special tool to get at the front struts.

Anyway, I got it fixed (my light bulb).
