Trick to removing tracking bar?tennfire 03-10-2007, 06:23 PM I have a 94 2500 4x4 and recently purchased the Luke's Link to rebuild the tracking bar. After two weeks and 3 broken pickle forks, I thought maybe there is a trick to getting the old one off. So far I have tried - pickle forks with a 2.5 pound sledge and have 3 broken pickle forks now. - a pry bar - driving a railroad spike on each side - heat (from an OA torch) - solvents - loosening the castle nut about 3 turns, put the cotter pin back in and driving it up and down the driveway while turning the wheels and pumping the brakes. Thought I would ask for help before taking it to a shop. Slade901 03-11-2007, 09:37 PM Are you talking about the tie rod ends on those bars? If so, I don't use pickle fork but instead I use 3 jar puller and 2 jaw puller. It is the most faster way of removing those tie rod ends on those bars. You can rent them from autoparts store or just buy one for yourself. tennfire 03-12-2007, 09:46 AM I have a large two jaw puller but perhaps a smaller one would fit in there. I was wondering if there was some type of tool made specifically for this job but perhaps I just had not tried enough of the tools that I already have in new and inventive ways. Doctors I think might call that "off lable" use. :banghead: 2.2 Straight six 03-12-2007, 06:02 PM aren't they screwn-on? assuming you mean the same thing i'm thinking of. the track rod end are usually screw-on, and they have a nut you tighten next to them. tennfire 03-12-2007, 06:13 PM Not on this truck - its definitely welded. Slade901 03-12-2007, 10:47 PM Do you have picture of that part you are trying to remove? Again, the 3 jaw or 2 jaw puller I'm talking about has a bolt in the middle that you turn until the tie rod end pops out. 2.2 Straight six 03-13-2007, 12:10 AM you want to pop the tie-rod end off of the hub? is that's the case, you need a ball-joint seperator. 2.2 Straight six 03-13-2007, 12:27 AM http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_suspension/article/0,2021,DIY_13695_2276480,00.html http://www.projectbronco.com/Technical_Articles/track_bar_axle_mount_fix.htm http://www.projectbronco.com/Technical_Articles/track_bar.htm http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=16775 not all specifically for the Ram, but they involve removing the tracking bar. there you go :) should help. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
