Hi, I just bought a 95 2.3 Quad 4 Grand Am for $50. Its in really good shape, only 103,000mi, but it needs a head gasket. It was partially disassembled when I bought it so I'm going to take a crack at it. A im a novice mechanic, still in school, so i think this will be a good project. Now my first question, how do you get the timing chain cover off? motor mount is already off but the bracket for it is still attached to the block. Also has anybody here done this before? thanks

Hello Tim, I'm sure many here have done this or a simular motor.

You best bet is to pick a R&R manual.
Chilton or Haynes, a GM tech manaul is the best but rather expensive.

Well i got the balancer off (8' breaker bar) now i just need the inner part of the engine mount and the exhaust manifold. I know this is a little steep for a novice but for $50 i think i'll give it a try.

It'll be a good learning experience for you.
