check oil light comes on at start-upquakerstl 10-05-2002, 12:58 PM The CHECK OIL light comes on at start up on my 1995 Grand Am (quad 4). If I shut the car off and restart it the light will not come on. It is due for an oil change. Is this the switch, the light, an idicator light to tell it is time for oil change, or just some other problem on these idiotic cars? mitchy_v 10-10-2002, 06:02 PM i know on newer models that light will come on every 4004-6000 miles and then you reset it. if this is the case it should stay on all the time. check your fuse panel to see if you have a reset button. Shortbus 12-26-2002, 04:58 PM 95'S Do not have a engine oil life monitor. Sounds like you may have a bad engine oil level sensor. The sensor is in the side of the oil pan these take a lot of abuse. The part is only 24.00, you should replace it next time you change your oil. 04GrandAmSE2 04-29-2006, 05:15 PM I have an '04 Grand Am and after changing the oil the light wont go out. I checked the fuse panel on the side of the dash and there is no reset switch where the diagram says there should be. Is there another way to reset the light? catback23 05-04-2006, 05:22 PM I have an '04 Grand Am and after changing the oil the light wont go out. There is a procedure for resetting it, check your owners manual for full details but basically is 1. Turn Ignition to "On" position, do not start car 2. Within 5 seconds slowly depress the accelerator pedal fully 3 times 3. Wait for beep confirmation/change oil light to do something (I don't remember exactly what it's supposed to do but it should go off or something) 4. Turn Ignition off That's it, if done correctly you'll be good for some more miles. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
