2000 Grand AM SE
Automatic Transmission
3.4 L
140,000 miles
1st transmission flush since I've owned the car

I'm not exactly sure how to describe my problem so here it goes. I just got my transmission flushed at Goodyear. For the past few days I've noticed when I am accelerating normally, not hammering it, the tranny or engine seems to lose some power or hesitate. Is it possible when they hooked up their machine to flush all the old fluids out my transmission filter got plugged with contaminates. It's only been 5 days since the flush. We also had a huge snow storm come through MN over the weekend. Is it possible something got wet under the hood and may be causing this?

Welcome to AF.

I would say if it was "flushed" that is your problem and as you suspect , it has loosend debrie/residue and moved it where it shouldnt be.

They should have changed your trans filter after the flush.

A flush is never a good idea unless the car has set for an extended period, like a year or more.

Might find out if they replaced the filter.
And you could also try some SeaFoam for the trans (http://www.seafoamsales.com/transTune.htm) to see if it'll clean up anything sticking.

How/where would I put SeaFoam in the tranny. It's a sealed transmission with no dip stick or anything I've noticed. I'll bring it back into the shop to have them take another look. Thanks for the reply and appreciate the quick response!

Sorry about that, the trans doesnt have a dip stick though it does have a fill opening on top.

Look beside the air intake down toward the trans,
Big Red plastic cap that unscrews.
Probly want to do this while the engine is Cold,
if not you might get burnt on hot exhaust.

It is recomended that the fluid & filter be changed every 30-40K miles too.

Hope that helps!

You are describing the exact same symptoms I had when I had my tranny flushed a while back. I don't want to scare you, but in my case it eventually led to failure. See this thread:

Fire

P.S. What I'm saying is get it checked by a specialist and get it fixed. You might run in to a big bill now, but you will end up with a much bigger bill if you let it go and it burns up.

a tranny flush is good on a low mileage car...or if you do one every 30k....to flush a tranny with over 100k with no fluid change ever....you loosen up the junk in there and it causes all sorts of problems....theres probably not much you can do now...possibly change the filter and flush again....may help....may not...
