Gas Smell Under Hoodoldmike 02-27-2007, 07:00 AM I have a 2002 Alero, Auto, 3.4L V6 with 51000 miles. When I turn it off after driving, there is an odor of gas under the hood. No liquid present, just the odor. It seems to be strongest near the round black part with silver top labeled GM at the left end of the intake manifold (right if standing in front of car). Engine runs great and there are no trouble lights on. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike Scrapper 02-27-2007, 07:30 AM look in your manual see if it's gas filter..the car should be missing if gas leak as it will suck air and not run right...good luck... khayward2004 02-27-2007, 10:23 AM I had the same problem and my mechanic said that a seal was broken and was leaking gas into the motor, and he said if it went much longer i could have had serious problems, sorry i can't tell you the exact problem but i hope it helps oldmike 03-01-2007, 07:09 AM Thanks guys. Went over to the Grand Am Owners Club forum and there was a post already there nearly identical to mine. Another member posted a good explanation of the fuel delivery components and where leaks could possibly be. Found mine to be where fuel enters the rear fuel rail. Now to disassemble it and check it out. Mike oldmike 03-09-2007, 07:00 AM Well, I finally got the Upper Intake Manifold off so I could get to the leaking fitting. Now I will disconnect the compression fitting on the rear fuel rail on drivers side (where it's leaking), put in new O-ring and tighten down and hope this fixes it. I think the LIM gasket replacement was done by someone before I bought the car and they didn't get the fuel fitting on tight enough. Will update soon.
