05 rear end clunkkardo 02-26-2007, 05:55 PM I have an 05 1500 that has a small clunk in the rear end when ever I pull away from a stop. It sounds as though the brakes are releasing late and the forward motion releases them. It is still under warranty and I have had it in for the problem. They say they can't tell me what it is. I will take it in again before the warranty is up but if I can find the problem before that it would even be better. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it just the way the vehicle is? maxwedge 02-28-2007, 03:14 PM Was a common issue with the front yoke on the driveshaft binding in the transfer case out put shaft, there is a special grease for this and I believe an updated yoke also. JaVeRo 03-01-2007, 12:37 AM I fixed mine by removing the driveshaft and smearing some grease on the splines of the yoke on the transmission end of the driveshaft, then reinstalled the driveshaft. What's happening is this: As you come to a stop, the axle will twist slightly causing the driveshaft to pull out of the transmission a little. Not nearly enough to come out. When you are stopped completely, the splines will not let the driveshaft slip back in. As you release the brakes to proceed, any pressure on the splines is released and the shaft slips back in. I would guess the amount of travel is less than 1/8 inch and it's probably not hurting anything but it's annoying. The grease lets the splines slide better. I have not heard of a special grease for this as maxwedge stated but if you can find it, It may be more compatible with the transmission fluid. James kardo 03-03-2007, 08:04 PM Thanks for your help. I will look after that as soon as I can. I find the noise very annoying. CreditKing 04-12-2007, 10:33 PM I have an 05 1500 that has a small clunk in the rear end when ever I pull away from a stop.
