Transmission model and band torque specs.Slade901 02-26-2007, 08:42 AM I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L V8 Quad Cab 4x4 Magnum. Where do I find the transmission model? I could not find it written on the transmission pan. Does any one have a torque specs for adjusting the front (outside) band and the rear (inside the transmission pan cover) band? Thanks. hundahunta 03-02-2007, 03:33 AM BAND ADJUSTMENTS FRONT BAND ADJUSTMENT The front (kickdown) band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the transmission case above the manual valve and throttle valve levers. Raise vehicle. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut Then back locknut off 3-5 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in case. Apply lubricant to screw threads if necessary. Tighten band adjusting screw to 8 N·m (72 in. lbs.) torque with Inch Pound Torque Wrench C-3380-A, a 3-in. extension and 5/16 socket. CAUTION: If Adapter C-3705 is needed to reach the adjusting screw , tighten the screw to only 5 N·m (47-50 in. lbs.) torque. Back off front band adjusting screw 3-5/8 turns. Hold adjuster screw in position and tighten locknut to 41 N·m (30 ft. lbs.) torque. Lower vehicle Front Band Adjustment Screw Location Band Adjustment Adapter Tool REAR BAND ADJUSTMENT The transmission oil pan must be removed for access to the rear band adjusting screw. Raise vehicle. Remove transmission oil pan and drain fluid. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut 5-6 turns Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in lever. I would like to make sure that I'm dealing the right band torque specs for my vehicle. I have a code for my Transmission from the sticker attached on front of the engine near the radiator. Code # Description DGB Std Duty 4Spd Auto Trans I have subscribed to www.alldatadiy.com and I have this code for the transmission and what those code means. Transmission Codes * DGP = 4-speed Automatic (47RE) * DGT = 4-speed Automatic (46RE) * DGK = 4-speed Automatic (42RE) * DDP = 5-speed Manual (NVG-4500) * DDX = 5-speed Manual (NVG-4500 Heavy Duty) * DDC = 5-speed Manual (NVG-3500) * DEE = 6-speed Manual (NVG-5600) However, I can't find DGB from the list. Slade901 03-05-2007, 10:14 PM I called Dodge customer service and could not give me the answer. I was referred to call in 5 Dodge Dealerships. One dealership told me that my transmission is an M30 type. 4 Dealerships told me that it should be 46RE. I have already dropped the transmission pan and ready to adjust the rear band. The rear band adjustment screw is not a hex screw but square and none of my sockets would work. It seems that an 8mm open end wrench would work but there is no way to use the torque to hold the open end wrench. I was thinking of using a 8mm crow foot but I only have a 10mm crow foot. I was thinking of using a gator grip socket but it is too long. I'm too far away from any autoparts store. I wish I have known in advance that the rear band adjustment screw is not a hex type screw but instead it is a square. The service manual shows a hex type adjustment screw but mine is a square one. I need my vehicle tomorrow. I'll just adjust it next time and put back the pan back in and fill it with the ATF +4. corning_d3 03-05-2007, 11:06 PM With the last 9 digits of your VIN, I should be able to help.. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
