3.1 97 GA with engine shaking and misfiring in P and N solved !!!Aki334 02-23-2007, 10:23 PM :grinyes: top engine mount on GA - the one to the left form power steering pump looked perfectly fine but after trying so many other thing before I finally decided to take it off and to discover somethng unbelievable. Let me go back 10 years to 1997 when I bought this car brand new with only 000003 miles on odometer. Engine was shaking a little after one month so I took this car to dealership and told them about the problem they said "what you expect it should shake little bit it is not Infinity" I was 19-20 year old at that time and did not know much about cars and did not want to argue with them since my English was so bad, but I knew that there should be something wrong. But then again I was telling myself maybe my GA needs some time for engine to break in. So this is what I tried within 2-3 years in this order exactly: sparkplugs, cables, injector #3 changed becasue of p0303 solved that code in 2003, engine was still continued to shake as before, then cleaned IAC tried another IAC from a good GA did not help, changed COILS around, cleaned EGR, ICM from junk yard, MAP from junk yard, MAF, O2 changed and checked vacuum lines so many times I can not even remember. Nothing worked. So finnaly I decided to take my engine mount off and the rubber part was perffectly fine no cracks nothing looked worn out but ther was about 1/2" air gap between metal engine mount housing (black part) and both sides of the round top rubber part inside of the housing. It lookes like this was factory made mistake eather the rubber part was too small for the housing or the housing was too big for the rubber part one is correct. So I think that when I was shifting into gear transmission would pull the engine towards itself so the engine was not shaking. As soon as I put it into P or N shakes. The first think I notice now is that GA has more power, shifts much smoother engine does not shake any more. I did not get chance to connect my scanner and to see if that misfire thing is gone but I think it will be. I used 2 pieces of the outside bicicle tire to fill in the air gaps of the engine mount inside and it works  checked alldata the price for new was something around $208 did it in 1.5h including thinking time what to do with the air gap    xeroinfinity 02-23-2007, 11:41 PM I think I might have suggested this when you first asked about your engine shaking :dunno: It probly wasnt a defective part. Over time the rubber does compress, which will make it rock more causing the mount to become more damged. I replaced my lower engine/trans mounts on the SE due to engine shake(atcually was broken in two). I replaced them with urethane after market parts. Half the price of the dealers insufficient parts. Hopefully some of your issues will subside since the shaken is not going on :D Aki334 02-24-2007, 12:17 AM Yes you did suggest but I was thinking the car was like that since it was brand new I would never expect engine mount to go bad in 30 days. ;) anyway hopefully I will get better MPG average now, and I hope someone will find this post helpfull. Before I would leave my hood open just to see what is going on when I shift to drive and engine would move forward (top part) would move 1" maybe that had some bad effect on my torque converter causing excessive fuel consumption or something. You can probablly explain that to me better. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
