2002 Venture - Trac System/ABS

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time on the site. I purchased a 2002 Chevy Venture LS ext about two and a half weeks ago. I have to say I love this van, I have been driving a saturn for 5 years and I thought I wouldn't like the van but I do.

Although I do have a couple of questions. I know there has been talk of the traction control system and abs breaks. But it's not exactly the same so please bear with me as I write this out.

After half a week my traction control light (with a wrench beside it) came on, the ABS light came on and the no tc came on. After about 5 minutes the service trac control goes off but the abs and no tc lights are still on.

It's not all the time, I could go almost a week without seeing it, but then it comes back on again.

When we certified the van (I took it to my trusted mechanic) he said there was a break fluid leak in the tire well (cyclinder sorry I am trying to remember what he said) and they fixed that.

It seems to me that when the tires get a blocked up with snow then the light seems to come on. I want to wait until spring to find out if the lights still come on with dry pavement. Both ABS and Trac control work when the lights are not on.

Now when I turn off the van now, the service trac light comes on for 10 secs and then goes off again.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

Check to see that all your turn signals, running lights (orange lights up front) and brake lights work when activated and flash at normal speed. Could just need a bulb replacement. If rear brake lights do not work, but 3rd brake light (at top of hatch) works, could be a short in the harness plug in one or both rear taillight plugs. Let us know.

I am not talking about those lights, I am talking about the lights where my speedometer are. Where you get the warning signals.

Sorry, but the lights you mention on your dash sometimes also go on when either your rear brake lights are not working and for me it was due to a short in the wiring/connector plug.

I have a '99 Montana and replaced the wheel bearing hub assembly during the summer. Two times during the wet rain/snow events this winter I have had the orange TCS and ABS lights in the dash come on and stay on while driving. A day or so later when things dry out, the lights go off and stay off. I believe the wiring for the ABS sensor in the bearing hub assembly is getting water into it tripping the light. Either I didn't it plugged in good enough or the wires are exposed somewhere, I'll have to take a closer look when things get warmer this spring. As mentioned, it has only happened twice this winter, but during a wet snow/rain event and only stayed on a day or two.

Yes my 2001 Venture had similiar issues and it was TWO wiring harnesses somewhere under the van that had to be replaced. It was definately worse in damp weather.

Also coincidently I had a burned out rear bulb, that i hope wouldnt cause this problem.
