got in 4 wheel drive-- but more problems...janethop 02-17-2007, 06:18 PM Hi. THANK-YOU for your help engaging my 4-wheel drive. But, now I have another problem..... after 4 hours of alternately shoveling snow and moving the car a few feet, it wouldn't crank. After buying a new battery, changing 3 burned out fuses, and adding $10.00 in gas, it STILL won't crank. What could we have messed up during our "shovel-move-shovel-move" routine??? Thanx so much for your help!! janet ps.... someone mentioned a "reset" button??? LMP 02-18-2007, 04:30 AM ...after 4 hours of ..moving the car a few feet, it wouldn't crank. a new battery, 3 burned out fuses, it STILL won't crank. .... someone mentioned a "reset" button??? ..I understand the starter does not even give a sign of life....(since you have gone for another battery)...do the headlights, accessories have juice, before trying to start and while trying to start? .THe three fuses..was it the same that burned three times or three different fusess..and which? ..THe "reset" button is an impact switch that normally cuts the fuel pump..but this car has none...and normally it does not kill the starter. DO you have a "lock out" or immobilizator system? janethop 02-18-2007, 06:30 PM Hi LMP and thank you a zillion times over for helping me! I understand the starter does not even give a sign of life....( ummmmm...... do the headlights, accessories have juice, before trying to start and while trying to start? yes, yes, and yes THe three fuses..was it the same that burned three times or three different fusess..and which? They were all different. I don't know what they were for, I just pulled each one out and replaced the ones that were "spent". DO you have a "lock out" or immobilizator system? If I did, where would it be?? I could not find it anywhere in my owners manual. THANX AGAIN for your help! I will do something nice for you one day, Honest! LMP 02-18-2007, 07:18 PM FOr the immobilizer, I do not have a clue.. THe fuses....as they are not identified, may be you could name them from this: (but if they are changed now and they did not blow again...not much to say) I cannot tell if that was part of the problem or just incidental... http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/FusesIN.jpg OK: headlights work, before and during (trying) starting: FIne. we have electrical contact. NOw..."ummmmm"'s not enough....would like to know for sure: does the starter crank ? (yes or no) . Click here: www.geocities.com/lmp4203/Snd_2403.wav first: starter cranks..then: engine fires up. NO "crank" at all (no sound, just may be click click) means broken wire or connector or faulty ign switch or broken starter....and...mmm..is transmission in "Neutral" or Park ?(simple things like that happen!) If starter cranks but engine does not fire up, that's different. Details..details! janethop 02-18-2007, 10:50 PM does the starter crank ? yes engine fires up. NO "crank" at all If starter cranks but engine does not fire up, that's different. Details..details! THAT is it, exactly.... cranks but engine doesn't fire Since last post-- we sprayed starter fluid in the intake... so not the fuel pump, right?? THANX, janet LMP 02-19-2007, 07:00 AM OK..engines need fuel and spark. You tried to add "fuel" without success....so we are left with a probable "no spark" condition. Problem is, with the way spark plugs are hidden, it is difficult to make a simple spark test. Spark failure is often caused by failure of crank position sensor ...but usually there are some advance signs, like car stalls at a red light, or once warmed up and stopped for a few minutes, it would not start again....until it has cooled down. One last try ...you said you moved it several times, almost just ON and OFF before it failed..I've seen mine act like "flooded" after such occurrences...it would start then by keeping throttle to the floor while starting...as this normally cuts the injectors. If you have not tried that yet, take a chance. THen, more serious investigation will be required....by the way, is the "check engine" light ON (looks like an engine, extreme right of instrument panel) ? ALso..what is the car mileage? Has the timing belt been changed before? ANd, any idea about the location of these blown fuses? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
