Suspecting coolant leak @ block-side heater hose endECain 02-08-2007, 10:16 PM hey all, ive been trying to track an issue [in my 2000 blazer] with my cooling system leaking, and think i finally tracked it down to where the left heater hose attatches on what looks like a threaded hose connector just behing the alt. any ideas? blazes9395 02-09-2007, 12:05 AM Clean up that area and see where it is leaking from. You also have the intake gasket right there too, so take a good close look at this area and you'll find it. srbianats 02-09-2007, 12:13 PM sounds like the intake manifold. my leak was on the other side (driver side). just like Blazes said, clean up the area. let the engine warm up and build pressure. look closely, you will see it. riptide44 02-10-2007, 04:24 PM yeah - be sure its not the intake gasket - gm used plastic intake gaskets around that time that usually fail around 80,000 km . plastic in a heated area ? :banghead: but its true . ECain 02-10-2007, 07:50 PM Yup. It's the intake manifold gasket. To make things worse someone had over torqued the 2nd from front driver side bolt and snapped the bastard. >:( riptide44 02-12-2007, 12:14 AM are you going to tackle the job yourself ? if so post back if you need any help - about a 5 hour job for a novice - and by the way , check with the dealer as a buddy of mine ( gm tech) said there was an updated gasket on its way or may be out already . even the older jimmys/ blazers had this problem although not at as early stages even with the regular gaskets - ECain 02-12-2007, 05:53 AM Tackled it myself, took about 5 hours. Okay I'm lying, 7 hours. Its idling super high and im getting a camshaft position sensor malfunction error, but I figure it's cause I forgot to hook up the harness that clips into the distributor. are you going to tackle the job yourself ? if so post back if you need any help - about a 5 hour job for a novice - and by the way , check with the dealer as a buddy of mine ( gm tech) said there was an updated gasket on its way or may be out already . even the older jimmys/ blazers had this problem although not at as early stages even with the regular gaskets - riptide44 02-12-2007, 06:58 PM 7 hours is about right judging from what other people have spent on labour at the dealerships - ideling high ? probably from a vac line not reconnected - i fogot to hook up my brake booster line the first time i started it up after that job - first thought was oh shit - blazes9395 02-13-2007, 12:02 AM Make sure those intake bolts are properly torqued to proper specs. If they are overtorqued or not uniformly torqued, you have a high risk of warping your block and causing more severe engine damage. It is a well documented fact that this easily happens, GM itself has a tech bulliten on this too, so do this right. ECain 02-14-2007, 09:10 PM Not a vaccum issue, ended up being that the little black plastic tension screw (on the line to the left, if looking at the plenum from the front) was too tense, keeping the idle high. And as far as the torque on the manifold bolts - had my buddy @ the dealership service shop peep em and make sure they were uniform.
