Have the 2000, AWD, V8, Limited. About 50% of the time when the trans goes into overdrive, there is a rumbling coming from what I assume is the transmission. Occasionally, when this happens, the radio momentarily loses power. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Strange on radio losing power.
I would be looking for a electrical problem there.
Any check engine lights or codes?
What engine and transmission?

I have the 5.0 V8 engine
4 speed overdrive automatic transmission.

No codes or check engine light

I only mention the radio as it only loses power when the transmission rumbles, but not all the time.

A am not sure on what it could be but it would be a good idea to get it in and have it checked out.

If this were happening on a Taurus, I'd suggest you check the Digital Transmission Range (DTR) switch. They have been known to cause some very interesting electrical issues, including some with the radio. However, I haven't seen where that's such a common occurance on the Explorer.

You may want to search this forum though for "transmission range" or DTR.

Looks like the explanation on the Taurus is because the power for the Rear Control Unit is provided through the DTR switch. No such circuit on the Explorer from what I can tell.
