Price of detailing?FREED0MFiST 09-29-2002, 09:44 PM I want to get my car professionally detailed. I think i need to get a layer of paint removed because i have horrible swirl marks, and i cant get them out. One day i spent so long clay barring, polishing, and waxing.... The swirls were gone for about a week, then they came back. Anyone know about how much this might cost? CharlesW 10-10-2002, 06:36 PM Exterior only will usually be from $100 to $175 for a first class job. You might want to ask around for some recommendations. There are some real hackers in the business. Charles pacman89 11-12-2003, 10:30 AM the reason you have swirl marks could be from several reasons i.e dirty wash bonette, using a compunding wool pad on your buffer, or just plain ol getting an express wash at your local drive thruough clear coat destroyer (gas station car wash). The misconception that you have is not that you have to remove a layer of your paint. In fact all you may need is to either wet sand the clear coat in some ares or get a good quality polshing pad and polish the vehicle then then wax it and seal it. the process is long but the results are unbelievable if done right. If you go to http://www.web-cars.com/detail/index.php you might find some thelp there. Thats if you are going to do it yourself. Before going to a detail shop talk to their clients and see how happy they are. Alot of people claim to be details but all they truelly are are just car washers with a big title. lrd56 11-20-2003, 11:37 AM i am a detailer i use a product called 3m 1500s i wash the the vehicle first then i leave it wet put the 1500s on a good foam pad run the buffer at 1500 to 2000 as you buff it out the swirl marks should go away if you dont trust your self have a friend who nows how 1500s is buffing compound and polish i like having the car wet it makes the 1500s work better especialy on older paint vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
