Hi folks,

I have a '96 Dodge Neon that's been with me through thick and thin. One fine morning as I backing up the driveway, the clutch spring decided to pop off. The clutch was working fine before, so this was unexpected.

I don't know much about cars, but I tried to contort my 6'4" frame underneath to try to rehook the spring. I can't seem to find where it goes.

Instead of paying $50 to tow my car down the street and $$$ to get it fixed, can someone show me where to hook it back up? I wouldn't think this would be very difficult.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what you mean by a clutch spring ? A 1996 Neon uses a clutch cable that enters the clutch housing on the top of the transmission .

Hmmm, I thought I knew what I was talking about.

Let me start over. When I pressed the clutch pedal, I heard a popping sound and the pedal went limp. I wasn't able to put it into gear. When I looked around, I saw a short spring with a hook at the end right behind the pedal. It seemed to be the answer to my problem, but I could be wrong. I thought I just needed to hook the spring back onto the pedal and I'm good to go.

Do you think it's a more serious problem?

The clutch cable connects to a grommet that connects to the pedal.
