Fuel Gage Full All Time

My 1998 Venture fuel gage stays high after a fill up. What should I check?

Fuel Level Unit on your fuel pump might have to be replaced, common problem for ventures.Typically the failure of the in-tank sensor is due to corrosion of the carbon wipers that change the resistance value. You can back probe the connector that is located behind the drivers seat under the vehicle. This is where the wires pass from the undercarriage into the interior. Correct values are from 40 (empty)-250(full) Ohms IIRC. Outside of this range, and the gauge will act screwy.

When my sensor when bad a while back, the normal behavior was for the gauge to peg it self full for some time, then slowly drop down to empty. This was only if you had the vehicle shut for for some time. If it had recently been ran and had previously pegged and dropped to zero, it would drop to zero much quicker.

Dropping the tank to replace the sensor isn't all that difficult, but I wouldn't want to do it in cold weather. There are a few hoses you need to disconnect, remove 3 bolts holding the straps tight, then lowering the tank. A low profile jack or even some blocks of wood makes it easier to lower if you don't have all the gas out. Then just unscrew the retainer ring and pull out the pump/float assembly. It's all one assembly so expect a decent price tag on the repair.

would you say this would be the same on a 2001 venture. replace this would slove problem, guage stays on full also on my 2001 venture, any changes from previous years.. thanks
