Difficulty shifting to 3rdburban12 01-31-2007, 09:22 AM Just bought a 88 dakota and it appeared to be shifting fine until a couple of days ago. It shifts great from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd and then other times it waits until the RPMs are really high to shift to 3rd. Any ideas would be helpful. It is a 3.9 troy1 01-31-2007, 10:38 PM if it does this when it cold out and get better when it warms up its the seals on the direct clutch. burban12 02-01-2007, 09:33 AM It is not consistant at all. It doesn't matter if the truck is cold or warm. It does it sometimes and other times it drives fine for hours. burban12 02-01-2007, 11:09 AM I just found out that the trans was replaced and it only has a 3 speed in it. They are trying to tell me that it needs to be rebuilt because all the seals are leaking. i find this hard to believe because it is not leaking any fluids. Any idea where I can get a used trans and any idea what trans is in it. burban12 02-01-2007, 11:11 AM I took it to aamco and I just found out that the trans was replaced and it only has a 3 speed in it.
