2001 Power Steering Problem

I got my 2001 3.5 last year, while making a tight u-turn at a light I felt the steering wheel bind for a second and then release. Since then I have had almost no power steering at low speeds. This is intermitant. sometimes it appears fine, but most of the time I'm cranking the wheel manually.
It seems to work better now that it is a bit cool here, but in the Arizona Summer heat, I was getting some pretty big
arms:wink: .

The fluid level is correct. The dealer told my to try Lucas Power Steering Conditioner first. He did not know why, but it works for most of the used cars they get with poor power steering. Any help would be appreciated.

:smokin: The steering for your car is the most complex one from the north american cars these days...you have a variable steering with a magnasteer that suppose to give you three different steering effort: the first one, an easy one for the parking at low speeds, a regular one for speeds up to 80 Km/h and a stiff one for Hyw...if your steering is ok sometimes and the fluid level si fine than could be an electric signal that is ordering the magnasteer to function properly. Normally the dealer is doing first a test of the electronic signal and if that one is fine then he is going to check the hydraulic system. If it's an electric signal error it should be detected on the tester when you go to the dealer (about 80$ the test only). If it's a hydraulic problem then I belive you have a by-pass in the system, not necessary from the rack but could be from the pump too. If the reliefe valve from the pump it's getting stuck sometimes you loose temporary the power assist.
As you can see, your problem is not an easy one so you have to take it step by step.:smokin:
