I recently purchased a 1996 SR5 4Runner. I have looked everywhere to find out if it is equipped with a locking diff. Does anyone know how to find out?? Great forum by the way!!

The Toyota locking differential uses 11 studs holding the 3rd member instead of 10 studs as used in the original differential.

Also, the locker has electrical connections and a motor that the standard differential doesn't have. See the following picture of a locker:
