Just the other day after driving across town, I went to get of of the car and noticed that my coolant was leaking. Opened up the hood and the coolant was leaking from the reserve tank. My reserve tank kept on overflowing for about 5 mintues. After awhile the reserve tank went back down to normal. Thermostat going out? Water pump?

Sounds like you had a normal consequece of your van overheating. The coolant recovery tank will boil over and shoot coolant out the overflow.

Could be the pump or thermostat. First I would top off the coolant with a 50/50 mix of distilled weater and antfreeze. Now start the van and make sure the cooling fans on the back side of the radiator come on within fifteen minutes or so. If they come on and the temp gauge continues to climb, tap the thermostat housing (where the upper rad hose connects on the engine) with a hammer or the like. It may be sticking closed. Don't let it boil over again. You risk expensive damage. Which engine do you have?

If you have some mechanical abilities come on back. If not, take it to a mechanic asap.

Thanks RIP. The funny thing is, I got back in the van and drove home and the temp gauge never went up. It was in the middle as normal. After getting home, no more coolant leaked out. As a matter of fact, I don't remember the gauge getting hot at all in the first place. Weird.....
