5.7 oil pressure guage toklatman 09-26-2002, 08:09 PM
The electronic oil pressure guage on 94 Chevy Truck with 5.7 motor fluctuates between 50 and 10 lbs regardless of engine speed. At no time has the idiot light come on. My gut reaction is a faulty sending unit, I have not abused the engine in it's 60K life, change oil&filter @ 3K and keep air filters clean. Anyone else out there had these problems?? Thanks.. Chevyman88 11-17-2002, 06:52 PM hi, i have a 1988 silverado with the same problem, my father had an 88 2 years ago with also the same problem, so keep me in the loop and let me know what you find out, thanx 99silverGT 11-23-2002, 09:08 PM it is the gauge. had the same problem on an 88 and my uncle did on a 92. all gauges are very poor quality on these trucks. Shortbus 12-16-2002, 11:49 AM This is a very common problem on the 88-94 chevy and gmc trucks. The problem was usually in the cluster itself. We use to send four or five cluster's out a week for the repair but most people just live with it. I have seen the cluster register such a low oil pressure the the check gages light will come on. If your ever in doubt the best thing to do is to hook up a mechanical gage to the oil port and check it that way. I have a 92 gmc with a six cylinder and it has done it every since 24,000 miles and it now has 160,000 on it and runs great. at idle it shows about 15lbs and at higher rpm it will peg out depending on the engine temp.
