Is it my STARTER?

Hi folks, My 90Century3.3 with 96K is about to loose its starter, I think :screwy: About a month ago when I turned the key I got my first "whirring" sound as the engine failed to start. Next turn it starts right up. Now, the same thing happens only much much more frequently. If you agree that its the starter could you help me with its location and the steps to replace it. Its my work car and I can afford the part but not the labor, and I am mechanically able:grinyes: If you think its too big a job for me, let me know that too. Thanks very much.

Unfortunately, I am not sure where the starter is on this car I think your problem is the solenoid on the starter not the starter itself. The solenoid is a magnetic switch that when current is applied it causes the starter to engage. If the solenoid does not engage then the starter will spin. Change it first. Will only cost about $50 or less and you can do it yourself once the starter is removed. Just make sure to unhook the battery cable before tackling this. If you are uncomfortable take it to a mechanic.

I want to think the starter is located on the drivers side, but am not sure wether it is in the lower front or lower back.

Its right above the cross member on the front side of the engine. I messed it up if I ever want to change mine cuz I bent that crossmember right into my starter.
