'99-headlight flicker & fuel gage erratic

New to the site. I've got two problems that are driving me nuts.
1) Headlights flicker when the engine is off... they flicker all night long.
Some things I've found is that this only happens spring through fall, and that when I disconnect the headlight control module from under the dash it's useable. I've gotten used to unplugging the module during daylight and while parked and plugging it back in when I need it in the evenings. There is a metallic ring/pop kind of sound coming from the module that sounds like relays are turning on and off.
2) Fuel gage is possessed when the tank gets low. When I get near a quarter tank, the fuel gage drops to complete empty then shoots up to completely full... then back again in seconds. It stabilizes for a short while then does it again. I've been relying on the onboard computer to keep track of fuel usage so I know when I'm really at E... but that is not accurate. 14 gallons usage on the computer allows me to put 15 gallons of gasoline into the tank. 1 gallon discrepancy.

Both of these problems are very common with Auroras. I've had both myself.
I had the headlight control module replaced at a dealership some time ago (for crazy money) to address the lights. After I had that done, I found another site that mentioned that the module can often be disassembled, cleaned, regreased and it will work fine.
The same site has a couple of threads about repairing the gas gauge issue. I repaired mine 2 weeks after it working crazy for a couple of years. There is a repair kit for a different GM vehicle that has a redesigned part that can be used to replace the worn out piece in the sending unit in the gas tank that is the cause problem you are having. The kit cost me about $40 over the internet.
Rather than trying to repost the info from the other board, I'll just point you over there. It is for the Aurora Club of North America at http://www.auroraclubna.com. Just search for "gas gauge". The light issue has a how-to under a sticky titled "1995-99 Aurora Maintenance "How-To's"
