Y2K silveradobowtieguy04 01-17-2007, 06:59 PM Does anyone have a good idea to what the cost of installation for a sending unit is? Thanks in advance. 2000 Silverado Z71 Sonny01 01-17-2007, 08:09 PM Hi and welcome...which sending unit are you asking about? bowtieguy04 01-18-2007, 08:39 AM I'm asking about the fuel sending unit. Thanks. silverado122775 01-18-2007, 06:17 PM The dealer will charge you about $450 for the pump and an extra $450 to install it. I have seen Fuel pumps as cheap as $89, but not sure if I would trust those. rjeffery 01-18-2007, 07:45 PM I paid $290 at Autozone for mine Sonny01 01-18-2007, 08:41 PM Look here for some advise: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=646650 I have seen a new pump/sending unit on eBay for $139. The dealer wants like $450 and another $450 to install just like silverado122775 said. bowtieguy04 01-19-2007, 08:52 AM well, thank y'all for the info and advice, but that sounds kinda steep. I think i'll live with my erratic gauge for a while. bigj-dog 01-19-2007, 10:42 AM I bought the 139 dollar one from ebay and with a case of beer and 3 friends to watch most of the time and help remove and replace the box, it took about 2 hours to switch the pump/sending unit. That was 2 years ago and no problems since. The only thing to check for is that they recommend replacing the wiring harness pigtail too. I didn't on the siverado, but did on a couple of others that the pump actually went out on. Sonny01 01-20-2007, 09:20 AM My gage is only useful from about 1/2 down unless the engine idles for a couple minutes like at a train crossing. Then the needle flips back and forth and the low fuel light goes on and off. I get about 300 miles per tank in the city so then the trip meter gets close to 300 I fill up and reset it. bowtieguy04 01-22-2007, 09:01 PM Thanks Sonny I'll try that. What engine do you have in your truck? It'll give me an idea to how many MPG i get in mine. By the way mine's a 4WD. Sonny01 01-22-2007, 10:34 PM Mine's a 2000 4WD, 5.3l, ext cab, short bed, LS model. silverado122775 01-25-2007, 10:15 AM I get pretty close to the same, depending on my mood :D vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
