I have searched through the forums on this type of subject and I am looking for more info on what to do. I have been trying to get this fixed by the dealership (no one else would try) and spent about 3 months waiting to get it back.

Beginning of November I took my car in because I was losing power when I would accelerate and the car would not start. If it did start it would run rough. Problem was (dealership says) a bad main relay - replaced that. Got it back two days later and the same problems crept back up. I limped it back to the dealership and they say - oh you have a bad fuel injector. So they replace that. But one of my injectors would not work with the other 4. It was the one that was replaced mid 2005. Lack of patience - replace all 4 and be done with it. Problems came back. This time they replaced the fuel filter because (dealer says) it was gummed up. Had to ask the question why. Opened my fuel tank and found the tank was rusting / corroding out from the inside. The fuel was crap and the fuel pump case was pitted bad. So the dealership replaced the metal tank with a plastic one. Replaced the sending unit, fuel filter (again) and did a fuel system flush. I got it back and did emissions (was due in november). Passed that. That is the story on the big problem.

Little problem I have now is the car will start if it is sitting for a bit and will drive great. However if I drive to the store and run in and get a few things and come back out 5-20 minutes later the car will not start. Starter works - fuel pump engages but will not start. Seems to only happen dueing a temperature range when it is warm. Either cooling down or after it has started. The car will restart within 1-2 minutes. However after that I need to let it cool back down to get it started. I took it down to the dealership november 26th for the problem and patiently waited for them to fix it until last week. So far all I got was a free oil change and a car wash.

From the symptoms provided above is this also a case of a main relay that needs to be resoldered or replaced? The relay was replaced the first time going in but it could have been just a non problem at the time due to the fuel tank. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update

I removed the Main Relay and found flux on two of the posts for the 12V relay. I removed the flux and touched up the solder. The rest looked good. Reinstalled the relay and took it out for a test drive to warm it up. Outside air temp was ~45F so I let the car sit for about 10 minutes before starting. At 10 minutes the engine flooded and died (quickly). Waited 10 seconds tried it again and the car started but started rough but settled out. Seems the main relay was the fix on this one. Will be going to look for anything else that could be causeing this problem.

Fuel Injection Relays are common with these cars, Replace the Relaay and will most likely be problem solved.

another thing u may want to check is the distributor, a bad coil or ignitor can also be the problem, was an intermittent issue w/ my car until it finally crapped out and would not fire at all. i had a spare distributor so i didn't bother figuring out which went bad the ignitor or the coil (or both). next time u have a no start, check for spark, if u don't have spark, check for power to the distributor. if u have power to the dizzy but no spark then the main relay is good, and the dizzy is bad. or have the dealership check. they can even test them to see if they are going bad, (coil especially) checking the resistence.

I had the same problem until i replaced the ignition coil. Old one looked slightly melted! I made a heat deflector for the distributor and fitted some heastsinks to keep the housing cooler. I was bored that day....
No problems since.
