We started the van today with remote start and the wipers were on but froze in place. so now they will only work on high and no othor speed settings and the will not go down in the off postition because when you go from high to medium they just stop where they were at. any ideas would be greatful thanks

You broke the cancel cam inside the wiper motor. Normally these break on their own. If you take a look around, you'll notice other GM vehicles with the same problem. The only fix is to replace the motor assembly.

No, I doubt it but then again, it's hard for me to tell you what's broke without seeing it in person.

ponchonutty is right. THis unit is fragile..does not endure abuse...and wiper blades getting stuck in ice is abuse. I suggest you live with it during this winter. Turning the wiper OFF before leaving car is a mandatory checklist item when equipped with remote start. Sorry it turned out that way...but as poncho said...this is almost a question of "when"...rather than "if"....
you can check at rockauto.com for an idea of price...and this is an item that should be procured as new...unless you find one on a recent "totalled".

EDit: as suggsted in following posts, ground is indeed a problem with these units..had to "reground" the unit on my son's z-34 a few weeks ago..but that was a '92...yours is rather new so I do not think it is a ground probleem...and my son's had internal damage too and refuses to park regularly.

I'd like to add also that a poor design of the van also leads to this problem. There is a "pocket" where the wipers sit in the normally parked position, and in the winter snow and ice accumulates in that pocket. It is difficult at times to try and get the snow and ice out of that area to free the wipers up to work properly. I've also seen a small chunk of ice get dislodged and sit under the wiper arm, which causes the wiper to not be able to clear the windshield properly.
