1998 Aurora - Fuel Rail Leak

I have a 98 Aurora with a fuel rail leak (plastic is split at the injector point connection).

Question: Can I splice in a new piece of fuel hose between the injectors & clamp it with a hose clamp at each end? What would the hose size be? Fuel Rail part numbers? The local GM/Chevy dealer couldn't give me a part number for the fuel rail or any help on any of my questions. They told me to call the 800 GM number for help.

I've seen numerous internet discussions on the 95-97 Aurora fuel rail recall & wonder why the 98 year wasn't included. The plastic ones were cracking & leaking & a metal replacement was the fix. I called the Olds 800 number & questioned why the 98 wasn't recalled & got the typical BS at the other end. This is a work car & I just want to get it back on the road with the least amount of money/hassle. Thanks for any help & info.

Perhaps you could find a junk yard car with the new rail installed and pull it. I did the recall on my 95' and it seems like its a pretty easy pull. I dondt know why they didn't recall the 98'. I would guess that the sales for the 95-97 were substantially higher and therefore the number of likely failures is within the recall range whereas the 98-99's were not.

Thanks. I'll probably try the hose splice first. Rock Auto calls out AC DELCO Part # 12499785, RAIL KIT,M/PORT F/INJN FUEL for $115 & GM Direct has the same part for $87. I haven't been able to get anyone to tell me what is included in the kit or a pic. The GM dealer & 800 GM are of no help at all (head in the sand).

You should be able to get GM to do a free fix. You got to be Tough, Claim if there is a fire you will sue. This is known manufacturing defect and a threat to your safety. Get the GM 800 number guy to give you the number of the recall fix. Get Tough!!!!! Without the number the dealer probably won't do anything for you.

The GM 800 number told me to take it to the dealer for confirmation with no guarantees of a paid fix by them. The dealer wants $90 dollars to confirm what I've already told them. GM is very reluctant to pay or fix/recall anything, unless a law suit is in front of them.

GM had a problem years ago with head bolts breaking on the 2.5 4 cylinder engine. I had a 86 Olds Calais 2.5 with 60K miles on it. Blown head gasket, due to busted head bolts. They issued a bulletin, but no recall. After numerous GM calls I ended up paying a 250 deductible for the head bolt fix. The Olds production line is dead now & GM is on to new business.

Aurora update - Spliced in a new piece of fuel line from AZ, snugged it down with clamps & everything looks good. Driven a couple of hundred miles with no issues. All the other lines need to be replaced, but no leaks so far.
