car is rev limiting at 3800 yudaya 01-12-2007, 08:55 PM
i have a friend who has a 2001 sunfire..that was telling me he couldnt launch and that his car had no power.... i checked it out and his car acts as if there is a rev limiter at about 3800 or 3900 its really weird and his car has no power what so ever ..his car died when i was trying to go up hill and peel out..i tried to launch it (*hence how i found out about the 3800 rev limit) and i poped it into drive and it didnt lauch the tires didnt ever scratch they juss started to move...im goign to check his tranny fluid(auto trans) incase someone decides to still ask if its a AT or MT thankz in advance ~taylor millrtime 01-12-2007, 09:15 PM haha thats proly ur problem right there. u cant "launch" in an automatic....popping it from neutral to drive will burn up ur tranny VERY quickly. congrats, he proly has to get a whole new one now. now as to the rev limiting part, i dunno if a blown tranny would limit the revs or not, im sure its not good for it, but whatever. if ur mechanically inclined i would take it apart and check all the clutch disks and gears to make sure. yudaya 01-12-2007, 10:08 PM i know it no really a launch but he told me that it didnt do anythign so i tried... and as u knwo doing in once or twice isnt gunna kill your tranny you may but ulnucky enough to break and axel..(my poor honda accord).if you have that much power ...yeah youll wear it down but its not like once and its gone...but not form once or twice....his tranny runs fine in every other application..as we were driving down the road his car kept up fine it gets up and goes but feels like a car with low compression....i do know that he told me that his car was in a wreck befor he bought it..im juss trying to help him out thats all...im fine with my 85 300zx i dont know much bout newer engines or really to much about auto trannys....cept that my maxiama wont drive....i have no idea about his engine rev limiting at 3800...imjuss trying to spell it ou so you guys dont tell me that you dont understand what im talking about if you want me to be technical i can! yudaya 01-12-2007, 10:10 PM i cant take it apart he needs it for school and work...and i dont have the time to juss randomly say hey gimmie your car spudracer73 01-16-2007, 11:41 PM dude....automatics have a different rev limit than manuals and doing a tranny drop is a stupid ass way of checking to see it everything is alright. if you put you foot on the gas in neutral the computor is causing the engine to misfire in order to stop people like you and your friend from destroying the car. rjean 01-20-2007, 12:40 PM you could have a clogged catalytic converter, this could cause excessive backpressure and keep you from attaining high rpm's. MT-2500 01-20-2007, 01:04 PM i have a friend who has a 2001 sunfire..that was telling me he couldnt launch and that his car had no power.... i checked it out and his car acts as if there is a rev limiter at about 3800 or 3900 its really weird and his car has no power what so ever ..his car died when i was trying to go up hill and peel out..i tried to launch it (*hence how i found out about the 3800 rev limit) and i poped it into drive and it didnt lauch the tires didnt ever scratch they juss started to move...im goign to check his tranny fluid(auto trans) incase someone decides to still ask if its a AT or MT thankz in advance ~taylor A sunfire is not a drag strip car. When you put it in drive with a normal take off does it run alright? jakegday 01-23-2007, 04:36 PM automatics have a rev limiter at 4000 (or apparently a hair below that) when they're in park/neutral, put it in gear and your rev limiter will be at 6000, 2.2 liter, right?
