Coming out of storage questions...

Ok, so I've been off work for over a year (eye problems, all fixed now) I started back and now I'm trying to get my 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal 3.8 back on the road. To get it ready (and to address other problems) I've put in - Harmonic balancer, plugs and wires(the platinum ones ), battery, alternator, new tires, and after having it die on me and towing it home I took off all the wires I could see and cleaned them very well. It's starting now (thanks to the people here on the board) and I drove it to a garage so they could change the fuel filter and trans fluid and filter...it there anything else I should do to get it ready for a daily driver?

It has this shake at speed, like when there is load on it, and at about 45-55mph when no load. If I floor it or slow down it stops. I'm changing the trans fluid and filter hoping that helps, but the engine does have a miss. After it runs for awhile I check the plugs, one (back left) had oil on it, the others were an ashy pink.

Ok, and the car apparently isn't stock. The only things I can see that are different from a normal 38000 series is that the speedometer goes to 120mph (I posted 140 in another thread, I was wrong) , some of the fittings have this brushed metal blue look to them, and that plastic cover that everybody complains about being broken or missing is, well, missing on my car, and a metal cover that looks about the same is there, and still just snaps in and out. OH, that reminds me, under that cover is a horseshoe type bar with one small knob, kinda looks like the nipple on a tire? Can anybody tell me what that is?

Ok, anyway, thanks again for previous help, and help on this. Sorry I make stuff so long...but I'm trying to give everything that I think may help. :smokin:

The metal bar is the fuel rail and the knob is a scrader valve. Its used to test the pressure of the fuel at the rail.

The shake sounds like you either have a bad coil or a bad ICM (ignition control module). You can pull the ICM and have it tested at Autozone or similar for free. As for the coil, get to a pitch black garage or road, pop hood, use INSULATED pliars to remove the plug boots. If you get an erratic or no spark then you've fround a troublesome coil.

Otherwise, consider replacing the rubber vacuum hoses and perhaps the O2 sensor.

Thanks. I'll check that stuff after I get home from work.

Another thing it just started doing...and I'm afraid of making to many topics...

The console screen is flashing like the green matrix graphics...it just started doing that. All the pixels are randomly flashing on and off, and if I didn't know better I'd say it's doing so in Japanese, lol. Any ideas?

Just a loose wire, fixed now. Just a few more little problems, but it's running better now than when I first got it. Thanks again for all the help.
