Transmission problemsgumdrops 12-20-2006, 12:57 PM I bought a 95 4runner in October. I had it 2 weeks and realized the transmission did not like to shift into over-drive. I had the tranny serviced but it did no good. I took it to a tranny shop and was told 4th gear was shot. Replaced it with a used tranny, the next day, same problem. Replaced that with another one, same problem. This time the A\T temp light came on and it proceeded to spew trans fluid all over the road. I parked it and just don't know what to do next. Is it really possible that I have gotten ahold of 3 no-good transmissions???? I feel like the shop has deffinately missed something. Any ideas?? 4Wheel 12-21-2006, 05:06 PM The first thing to have tried was the thermostat in the engine. I kid you not! Do a search for shifting problems vs. thermostat solutions in the forum. The transmission shifting is fully controlled by the engine ECU! It holds it out of overdrive to heat the engine up to operating temp faster. good luck gumdrops 12-28-2006, 02:48 PM thank you , I will try that! I have read that and I guess it makes since. I just think it is odd, sometimes it works just fine and other times... everything is working right and all of a sudden it just falls out of OD and will not go back in. 4Wheel 12-28-2006, 03:11 PM Sounds like your temp may just be on the "threshold" of the temperature range. gumdrops 12-29-2006, 07:22 PM i replaced the statt and it works great so far 4Wheel 12-29-2006, 10:28 PM i replaced the statt and it works great so far WooHoo good news ...so far. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
