Ionization sensing code

Have a 9-3 with a "ionization sensing irrelevant" error. Car is being driven short distances daily and according to the dealer, it is fouling out the plugs. Does anyone know anything about? Is it truly a car that can only be driven by people who live more than 10 minutes from their job?

Welcome on your first post.

Short trips without a full warm up is hard on any engine and exhaust system.
But a 10 miles trip should bring it up to full operating tempt is thermostat is working good.
But give us more info for us to help you like.

Tips on getting a good answer to your questions.
People trying to answer your question do not have a crystal ball.
So give them all of the info you have like year make and model and engine and transmission and mileage.
Also cars engine and transmission service history or any recent repairs or problems.
Also a description of your problem and what it is doing or not doing.
If you have codes give up the code no.
And remember a code does not say replace the part but only points to the problem that you have to check out.
So to better help you give up all of the info you have on it.

It's difficult to say anything specific since the model/year/engine and fault code hasn't been specified.

In general I would recommend that you check the spark plugs, use only the NGK plugs recommended by Saab. Anything else than the OEM plugs is like asking for trouble. Make also sure that the plugs are fitted properly otherwise hot combustion gases might leak pass the seals and damaging the DI-system.

Okay, I will try again. Apologizes for the previous ambiguity. I should have known better. The only excuse I have is that it is a friend's car. It is a 2004, 9-3 with a turbocharged 2.0 and an auto trans. It has approximately 30,500 miles with no history of repairs. She took it in for a rough idle and what I can only assume is a bad miss (hesitation, sputtering). The code that was pulled was P1312 "Ionization Signal Implausible" and the spark plugs (original) are sooted. The dealer is asking that she return the car for cold start testing. While she does only live a few miles from work, she does at least let it warm up for a few minutes before driving. It is usually driven longer distances (40+ miles) at least once on the weekend. And help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is more of a combustion signal detection code for 1&2 cylinders.
I do not think driving habits has anything to do with the problem
But a good one to let the dealer to fix.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
