1997 SL 500 (Dads)
2000 S500 (Dads)
2000 VW Jetta (sisters)

And hopefully soon a 2002 Celica GT-S (soon to be mine)

gang$tarr
09-08-2001, 11:54 PM
you got an SL500 too... that's coo
have you driven it? I think it's a sweet ass ride, i drive my dad's ever chance i get :D

moe182
09-09-2001, 01:57 AM
Yea I drive it when i can.....its a great car for what it is. Its not a sports car by any means, i mean its just too heavy to handle/accelerate like one....its 4200 lbs car....Its a GT Luxury cruiser with a enough "sport" in it to make old people (like our fathers, and ppl who dont know cars) think that it IS a sports car...Its great daily driver (which is what its meant to be) in the fact that when you want the car to be quite civil, it can...and when you want it to roar and spin the tires it will.....The new 2003 SL is supposed to be alot more nimble then this one...

gang$tarr
09-09-2001, 08:59 PM
my dad only uses it as a fun car.... he only drives it in the summer

moe182
09-09-2001, 09:04 PM
Samething with my dad.....we're (my family) convinced that its his mid-life crisis car. Which is fine, he deserves it. Hell he went from being on welfare, to a sucessful business man.

gang$tarr
09-09-2001, 09:17 PM
that's quite a change!

i think my dad's been wealthy all his life so no success story there :)

09-09-2001, 11:00 PM
hahahaha, thats pretty funny. i dont like sl500's too much. maybe if AMG ripped off 1000 lbs and made it handle and accelerate i'd like it.

moe182
09-09-2001, 11:47 PM
They did.
The next generation SL's (2003) are going to be 300 Kg's lighter then this model, and the SL 55 AMG is suposedly going to be super charged to the sweet sound of 400-450 horses or so i hear. Hell they saved 33lbs on the hood alone. They're not bad cars. They're just not geared to performence, as much as lets say Porsche is (or at least this generations)....I mean you can get the SL 600 up to a good 550 hp if ya send it to RENNtech.....

gang$tarr
09-10-2001, 11:08 PM
well it has 302hp, so it aint that bad.... I think it handles great, just not as quick as a lighter car

still does 0-60mph in like 6s, that aint too shabby.... it's a performance oriented luxury car

but i still don't think it's worth a $100,000

well then again it is totally loaded with crazy options, it has lots of cool things.....

Heep
09-10-2001, 11:13 PM
How much did the model before that cost (the late 70's and 80's one)? Cause, compared to the newer ones, they are friggin everywhere. Not that it's a bad thing, but they must have costed an awful lot less for them to be that popular.

gang$tarr
09-11-2001, 01:27 PM
they're really popular cause they're a status symbol, so all older people who have money want one to show people they have money

that's why i want my dad to buy somethin new, cause i don't like that image... makes us look snobby

Nah, the Lucida rocks :D
It is indeed really slow accelerating but thats what makes it fun. You need to practice a certain driving style if you want to get anywhere fast. Because of the fact it takes so long to speed up you use the brakes a lot less in traffic, meaning you have to maneuvre a lot more. I can still maintain a much higher average speed in the Lucida than most people can in any car. And uphill its perfectly fine, it has plenty of torque so even when fully loaded with people it gets up hills at a reasonable pace, if you are going into the hill at a decent speed and give it the right amount of gas in the right time so it downshifts (its an auto). We've proven it time and again on numerous trips out of town, when all the V6 and V8 Holdens etc pulled out and passed the Lucida in the passing lane on the hills, as soon as they got to the top and at the next stretch they got overtaken again, and fell way behind. What the hell is the point of passing if youre gonna crawl along at 110k, and slow down to 60 for every corner ? Also some of those diesel vans you see around are in quite poor order and blow clouds of black smoke, ours is perfectly maintained so it might be a tad better performing than your average diesel Lucida. Basically, you get used to any car, there are just some things you have to do differently...

and where do you find a place to park all those?

I like driving different cars, and each one had its own peonage. Like I said I keep them in a large garage.

Besides, even though they mint and most of them modded, I am sure the resale is low. They are worth more to me to have fun with than sale. And in the winter I drive the Ramcharger and Jeep rather than my cars especially the Cuda.

You're really against having a collection, choices of what to drive today aren't you? You say that to everyone that has a lot of cars...

BTW Polygon: Sounds like quite the Chrysler loyalty in your family, except the sisters :D

LOL, yep. They have always worked great for us throughout the years. Though there are a few older Chevys and Shelbys that I would like, and a lot of foreign cars, but I can't afford them right now. When I can though that will be nice.... :)

no not really i just don't see the need to have more than like 3-4 cars for 1 person :D :D

all you need really is:
1. an SUV for bad conditions, or maybe some off-roading
2. a sports car, something fast
3. a luxury ride for cruising

what more?

i understand why you have so many though polygon, cause theres no point of selling them if you won't get that much money for them, they're more valuable to you then the money would be

Nissan Micra 1.0 Automatic - Great little car, 5 doors make it suitable for the school run, and the auto box makes city driving a breeze. Really nippy and can do some serious damage to drives of bigger engined cars at the lights! Can you believe it has A/C, electric windows and a CD player!

Peugeot 406 2.0 Automatic - My favourite mid-sized car. Looks classy parked next to a Primera or Mondeo, doesn't look odd parked next to a 3-Series or A4. So comfortable for long journeys, lots of space, and with the 'Sports' button depressed, surprisingly rapid!

Jaguar XJ6 3.2 S Automatic - We've always had Jaguars, and this one is great! Lovely redish colour with cream leather. One of the most prestigous makes, so relaxed to drive but the kickdown sorts the BMW drivers out!

Ford Transit Minibus Diesel - Nice metallic green. One of the best vehicles for families. Some people prefer a people carrier, but this is so much bigger, although it isn't the most refined vehicle! Great for trips to Europe, and parts are available everywhere!

Shocking, shocking, shocking, shocking spelling. I'm absolutely appalled. You're old enough to drive and you cant tell the difference between the words "have" and "half".... I let all your other mistakes slip but this one is too much. Tell me, do you understand road signs? Can you read them? Do yourself a favour and go back to school.

I drive a 1997 Mitubishi Eclipse gs.I've had it about a year now and have done a few mods. The first thing I did was add a Magnaflow catback exhaust system and ripped the resinator out.I have a set of 17' crome Racing wheels but sorry I dont know the name or dimentions.I installed Sprint springs that lowered it about 2'.The most recent mod was a commander style double decker wing on the back.As you've probally noticed,I am somewhat of a riceboy but not as bad as some.I would never add a t or x to the gs on the back of my car(acually I ripped Mitu and gs off,it gives it a smoother look)or put decals of stuff I do not have under the hood.I hope by the end of this month I will be able to install a AEM cold-air induction system and a header.I'm sorry I have no pictures(don't have a scanner, still living in the stone-age).Also sorry this is so long,I'm a rambler.Oh yeah,my mother and grandmother own a 2002 Ford Excape(I'm currently trying to talk them into putting flowsmasters on it).Oh and one more thing, down the road I plan on getting a Pontiac Trans Am WS6 to go with my Eclipse.I know that sounds silly to have two cars that are so different from each other. My hearts withs imports but I think it would be cool to have a little of both woulds. Thanks for reading.:grey:

Point one you made: Agreed- Especially having two crap cars. (It's an opinion don't get all itchy about it)

Point two you made: I disagree- ALL SUV's with huge Alloy wheels are disgusting

We'll have to agree to disagree on that second point. I think an X5 riding on monster alloys looks awesome. Especially in black, where the alloys are most evident. In fact thats a big problem with the Cayenne; the alloys just dont look big enough. I wish they'd made it more aggressive looking

My car...NOT MODIFIED!?!? haha, j/k, no my car is modified a little bit;) Enough to have a 6800 redline, not the 5200 of the stock tach. I have an aftermarket tach off to the side but that one maxxed out with the speed looks way cooler:D

It's just like having a second car. Like if you have a fun car and a family car...Except I don't have a family to take care of so MY second car is also fun!! And Z28/TAs are the funnest cars in the world to me(in my price range) so why would I get anything else? When nothing else can compare(in my mind)?? Of course you can't drive them both at once...But take rap mogul Swizz Beatz for examle...He owns no less than 27 cars, most of them exotic...And why?? Because he can! And I own two Z28s because I can!:D :D

crayzayjay
01-17-2003, 09:10 AM
OK that still makes no sense to me. You CAN have two cars, fine. Why the same model twice??? Its exactly the same experience. Why not a Z28 and whatever, a Mustang (dont tell me you dont like Mustangs im just using it as an example)... then you have some variation. Fine you like the Z28 a lot. No problem. So drive it all the time! Whats the point in switching between two of em? are they different colours or something? thats the only thing i can imagine

Self
01-17-2003, 10:07 AM

I agree.
The only way id own 2 RSX's (my car) is if i took one and made it a hardcore race/show car. And kept the other one stock, but even then i would get something else to drive. Just seems like a waste.

Well, because I thought you meant tuned as in track-only. The tuned one is the one I drive the most. Especially now since I'm trying to keep miles off of the 1996 until I can sell it and get something else(probably a 2002 Ws6!!!:D :D ) But yea, the 95 is the one with all of the mods and it's the one I drive the most.

Cabrio would be nice...but we don't have one of those. The Peugeot is holding on very well, which is why my father will not get rid of it. The diesel engine is original with only changes to fluids, plugs, and seals etc. It is the pale green color (they called it something like Mint Green, but I call it Birdshit Green) with dark brown leather interior, 5-speed manual. The paint on the roof is basically gone...but no rust on the car, and no rips in the leather (though it has worn-out spots)!! He is the original owner since 1977! I always loved it as a kid, with the horn being on the turn signal stalk, and the interior which converts into a bed...no other car in the US was like it.
