Fuel filter in 87 caprice87BoxClassic 12-12-2006, 02:00 AM does anyone know where the fuel filter is? i checked under the car along the fuel lines but i cant find it so it must be in the engine bay any help? CD Smalley 12-12-2006, 06:18 AM I assume since the car is an 87 it has a carb.... The filter is in the carb. silicon212 12-12-2006, 11:13 AM Correct, the filter is behind the fitting the fuel line connects to on the carb. capriceowns 12-12-2006, 12:16 PM but make sure you have a 1 inch wrench, thats the size of the big nut on the carb, I cant remeber the fitting size one. but make sure you turn the fitting with a linebreaker wrench while holding the big nut still Learned that lesson the hard way, now I have a 1 foot section of rubber hose were a steel one should be. lol. Can't remember exactly how many '70s and early '80s GMs I owned that looked like that.Got to love the fact that the previous owners of these vehicles probably rarely changed the fuel filter causing the nut and fitting to give you so much trouble. silicon212 12-12-2006, 01:34 PM The flare nut on the line is 5/8". speeddevil 12-12-2006, 07:04 PM does anyone know where the fuel filter is? i checked under the car along the fuel lines but i cant find it so it must be in the engine bay any help? I assume since the car is an 87 it has a carb.... The filter is in the carb i too have an 87 and my fuel filter is located under the rear passenger door on drivers side CD Smalley 12-12-2006, 07:53 PM Is your car a carb'd V8 though? If it's a TBI V6, then yes that's where it should be. GreyGoose006 12-13-2006, 01:19 AM i thought mine was in a brass piece that screwed into the front of the carb. i had to use two screwdrivers to get it off. 87BoxClassic 12-14-2006, 06:07 PM but make sure you have a 1 inch wrench, thats the size of the big nut on the carb, I cant remeber the fitting size one. but make sure you turn the fitting with a linebreaker wrench while holding the big nut still Learned that lesson the hard way, now I have a 1 foot section of rubber hose were a steel one should be. lol. I follow that line and it runs to the brake booster there is no filter, is there a chance the filter is in my gas tank..... but i'm not sure so does anyone have and pics of where it is located? Blue Bowtie 12-14-2006, 07:30 PM GreyGoose006 12-14-2006, 07:48 PM is that a rochester 2bbl? mine looks different. might be the angle. silicon212 12-14-2006, 08:06 PM No, that is a Qjet. The angle should be the same on any Chevrolet Q-jet carb. 87BoxClassic 12-16-2006, 03:47 PM thanks blue bowtie i didn't know it was inside there thanks, when it stops raining i'll replace it. it's been raining for like 46 hours now 87BoxClassic 12-22-2006, 05:43 PM i finally replaced it, i kept looking on the back of the carb then i saw on the front "<-- Filiter" smacked my head vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
