I need some help I Have a 1992 f-150, I went to put it in drive and I heard a big click. Now I can't get the key out of the ignition because I cant get it to go into park. I can get it to go into n 1 2 I dont have reverse or park anymore. The whole shifter is literally limp. If i move it up into where park would be it just falls back down. I hope it can somehow be clicked right back into position. but I doubt it. Any help on where to start or how big of a deal this is would be great. Thanks

Get someone to help you, and look under the truck on the side of the transmission. See if the linkage is moving on the trans when you move the lever inside. I believe the 92 has a shift cable, and the cable could be broken. Also, the linkage could have come loose on the trans. Where the shift lever goes into the steering column, underneath a little rubber boot, it goes through a piece of the linkage, and is held in place by a roll pin. Sometimes the roll pin comes out, the lever breaks, or the piece that the lever goes into that actually moves the cable or linkage breaks, its made of cast aluminum. You may have to take the plastic shroud from around the steering column. to get where you can see whats going on. Theres 3 screws holding the 2 pieces from the bottom, and 1 small screw at the right back, holding the 2 together. Check these things, and let us know.
