ok guys i really need your opinion im planning on getting a b16a but the prob is that its a 1st generation engine (b16a1) its from a 90-91 civic Si-R from japan. i was wondering if this is a good enough engine to tweak and stuff. please help me out oh the engine costs $1500 engine, tranny and ecu is this too much or is it a fair price

B16 is a great base to start from. From what I understand since you have a 97 then you have a hydraulic trany, so in order to use the B16A1 you would need a hydro conversion Im not sure how much that costs so you might want to check that out.

I have a 97 sol (suprise) and am looking for an engine swap too. Ive pretty much narrowed it down to two, either a B16A2 (170hp,118tq,hydro trany) which runs about 2000-2500 from a store, or a B18C1 (180hp,126tq,hydro trany) and runs about 3000-3500 in a store. You could probably find these cheaper at a salvage yard. Good luck.

I believe you need to go with a B16a that comes out of a hydro tranny as well, but dont hold me to that. Im not a B series expert.

B16 with hydro tranny would be a better choice ... also it will be a newer motor

also you need a motor thats your year or newer to pass emissions.

i would say buy a 1st gen b16 longblock (from a place like HMO), and then buy a Y80 GSR trans. Right there you would be pretty much the same (performance wise) as a 99/00 Si. Now, I haven't mentioned all of the other stuff needed for the swap like, shift linkage, axels, mounting kit, etc. Im not sure what you need for your swap, IM not a 6G EK guy...im an EF man :)
