96 Olds Delta 88 Dying!!!

I have a 96 Olds Delta 88 that dies when going down the road! Two years ago I took the car to a GM dealership to have fix. They had it for 2 months becuase they could not get the car to die, finally it did. Replaced fuel system and PAYD 500.00 dollars. Drove it of the lot the same day and car died again. Too it back to them, they said they found a wire short underneath the drivers side seat. They fixed the problem. Two years later its started again can be driving down the road and the car dies. Let it set for a little while and it will start again. Go down the road again and it will die!! PLease help!! I dont know what to do!!!! Gregory Thank You!

Welcome to AF, without some basic checking here, where do we start , got fuel pressure, got spark, these things are step one towards finding the problem.

Sounds like the stereotypical crank position sensor problem. Have the codes read for free at your local autozone, though that problem doesn't always set one. When's the last time you changed your fuel/air filters? What other maintenance have you recently done? Look under the driver's seat and check their repair from two years ago while you're at it.

I did some troubleshooting and found that when I unplug my EGR valve, the car doesn't die while I'm driving down the road. This of course sets off the check engine light, but hey at least my car doesnt die anymore :) This of course isn't the optimal fix, but try it. If you dont have enough money for a new one, (theyre expensive) just leave it off until inspection time :p

You need to rethink this advice, the egr's function is to reduce nox by cooling the combustuion chamber, disabling it's function can also cause "pinging" which will cause the pcm to retard the timing and hence performance is affected, not good advice here.

Definately check for codes, but off hand this sound like either a faulty crank position sensor, faulty ICM, or overheating coil.

And as for the EGR, the passageways could just be clogged with carbon build-up.

so that's why it's pinging! sometimes i should just shut my mouth about how i've "fixed" my own problems. sorry for the bad advice!!
