Tach Wire connection - 97 Cutlass supreme 3100Thorz 12-04-2006, 06:01 PM Hi All, I just did a head gasket/valve job on my 97 Cutlass Supreme with a 3100. After all is re-installed, I find that I have one additional wire to plug in. The wire diagram indicates that this 2 wire connector goes to the instrument cluster to run the tach. (Sorry - I don't remember the colors - I'll look this evening and add that info) The wire end that I have is about 12" in length and comes out of the larger loom right beside the alternator. Can anyone tell me where this one is supposed to plug in? Thanks, Terry caddyman379 12-04-2006, 07:15 PM My manual covers this car from 88 through 96, but its probably very similar. My manual shows two white wires coming from the ignition coil assembly. The lower white wire is the one that goes to the instrument cluster tach. It should go something like this, left to right. Tan/blk White White Purple/white Red/black Black/white Pink You want the second white wire. let me know how it works out. Thorz 12-04-2006, 11:10 PM Thanks Caddyman - I have a diagram that shows the same. (Mines Haynes) If you follow that white wire in the diagram, it goes up toward the top of the page and ends at a dashed line block labeled "instrument cluster". Also ending at that same dashed line block is a BRN/WHT wire and on the other side (top) is a PINK wire. The plug I have is the 2 connection plug with the WHITE and a BRN/WHT wire. White is the tach and I assume that brn/wht is the MIL Lamp Control from the control module. I just don't seem to be able to locate where I unplugged it from during the teardown. Terry caddyman379 12-05-2006, 11:56 AM yeah mines hanes too. It should plug into the ignition module (underneath the coils.) There isnt any way you could take a picture of this plug is there? The car is now running and the tach works. I know it "belongs" somewhere, so I'm still very interested in locating to correct place to route it. Thanks for all your help, Terry that connector looks like it should go to your (EVO) on your power steering pump. it look just like the one on my 97 cutlass. Thorz 03-23-2007, 04:21 AM My son has the car currently - I'll check for a location on the PS Pump next time he's home... Thanks, Terry JohnDD 03-23-2007, 12:57 PM I have a 95 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the same engine. I also have the same unused wire. I didn't have any work done on the car and I believe the previous owner didn't either. Car runs fine. I assume the wire is used on a car with different engine/ options. JohnDD 03-28-2007, 01:00 AM Reviewed my 1995 Cutlass Supreme Service Manual again. The wire is definitely the EVO connector for the power steering pump if your car has the Variable Steering option. Check your Service Parts Identification sticker in the trunk. EVO option is "NV7". My car doesn't have the option. The amber ABS light should come on and a DTC73 should be set if the circuit is open (connector disconnected) or shorted to ground. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
