Hi folks,

When I crawled under the engine, I noticed a lot of engine oil that leaks from the upper side of the engine. The starter and a lot of cables seem to be soaked with engine oil. Is it normal for a Camaro at this age. I also have a Mazda 323 with almost 10 years too, but the engine does not leak at all. Pretty amazed by that Japanese junk. :banghead:

No it should not be leaking like that, or at all. Mine is a 98 and I don't leak any oil, "knock on wood". you might have a seal going out or something. A pin hole in the seal could cause oil to come out. Even if its a small leak but it could have been doing this for awhile.

well its not a surprise that its leaking, both my 96's leaked...my 96rs had a leak from the oil pan...from the seal, and from the oil bolt where u drain the oil from....my 96 lt1 leaks like a damn 2 year old in the bed. if u saw the bottom of my car u would laugh your ass off, everytime i get parts put on or dyno it my boys at the shop clown me on how everything on the bottom of my car is well lubed....its all over and so bad i cant point out where its comming from. i suggest u do as im about to do to this car, and as i did to my old rs...if u have the means just re-seal the entire engine. drop it and the tranny...and do your basic seal changes and gaskets. u gotta figure a 11 year old engine, yeah its time on any car to have the basics changed. as for your mazda im sure it hasnt been beat on like that camaro..even though its only a 3800 its alot for a v6 of that time, people drove them like 5.0 mustangs lol....to the ground! so its normal, but if the leak is from the top, it may be an enternal problem which will really cause u to have to drop the engine and tear through it.....cylender heads and all that good shit....

Most likely it's either the intake manifold or rear main seal
