hey everyone, just to let me start out saying ive had 4 jeeps so far, 2 wranglers and 2 grand cherokees, i fell in love with them, anyways i was wondering what your opinions were on this 96 jeep gc laredo i found. 4.0L (both my previous gc's were 5.2L), 148k miles, auto, 4x4, i havent got a chance to go look at it yet, the delaer is going to go over it with his mechanic tomorrow (he just got it in), and ill prob go look at it on saturday. anyways he's asking 2000 for it. both my other gc's i bought with 80 k on them, crashed one, and the other i unfortunatly sold at around 115k miles. am i just going to be buying a headache bc of the 148k miles? we really could use a cheap second car, what do you guys think?

any hints/tips/suggestions on what to look out for, when going to look at it

thanks in advance everyone

The part about the dealers mechanic looking the vehicle over doesn't thrill me at all. I wouldn't be assured by anything that came from that conversation.

If it were me and I drove it and thought it felt ok I would probably go for it. But the only thing so far I haven't tackled on mine is rekeying a lock cylinder. But that's me and I like working on this vehicle.

IMHO a cheap second car only stays cheap as long as you don't put the neighborhood mechanics kids through college after you buy it.

haha yeah thats a good point about the mechanics....i called that guy again and am totally sketched out about him, but i found another one....i could use your opinions on.....

1997 jeep gc red with black leather int, 4.0 selec-trac, 160 k miles, (hes had it since 50 k, has ALL servicce records), he had a rebuilt tranny put in by a chrylser dealer 50k miles ago, so the rebuilt now only has 50 k on it, he also said it has new tires withint the past 18 months, new alternator, and fuel pump. im going to look at it tomorrow, i think he said hed take 2000 for it.

sound good?

i talked to my mechanic the other day and he said the 4.0's are awesome motors, it sounds like the guy kept really good care of it, should i be worried the motor will die soon with the 160k miles its got on it/ how many miles can i expect from the motor?

I like this one a whole lot better. :grinyes:

My 4.0 is at 203K and not at all unique.

Do a carfax maybe, just to be sure the story you get about the vehicle matches. But I bet this ones a keeper.
