M3 Steering Wheel and Gauge Cluster Install in Non Mmyblack93pgt 11-28-2006, 11:24 AM This is a great modification for BMW 3 Series owners. My article is based on a 2001 BMW 330Ci using components from a 2001-2005 BMW M3. Basically the install procedure is quite easy for installing the steering wheel and gauge cluster. To install the gauge cluster the only thing you will need to do is remove the two screws holding the cluster in place. Once finished, simply slide out the old cluster and disconnect the two wiring harnesses holding it in place. Finally, replace with your new M3 cluster (can find them on ebay). Once connected check to make sure it is functioning properly. You may notice that the warm up lights on the M3 speedo go directly to the redline. This is normaly because the non m cars may not have the engine oil temperature sensor required for the rest of the lights to function. Aside from this it should be fully functional. Installing the steering wheel is also quite simple. First disconnect your battery. Once done grab a flat head screwdriver. If you look on the back of the steering wheel you will notice to small slits in the wheel. Push the flat head screwdriver in to disconnect the airbag clip. Do this on both sides of the steering wheel and you will be able to pop the airbag out. Handle it carefully and remove the connection at the bag. Set the airbag aside and disconnect the wires inside the steering wheel. Finally, remove the bolt holding the steering wheel in place and replace the wheel with your new (Thicker) M3 steering wheel. Be sure you align it properly when you replace it. You should notice two aligning marks on the actual steering wheel. Replace the bolt and all necessary wiring, re-connect the airbag and you are done! They are also quite easy to work on. 91HO305TPI 12-02-2006, 01:41 PM you forgot to mention that the odometer will not be correct and it wil have a manipulation dot stating the cluster has been changed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
