ZJ - Intermittant Tailgate warningdahozzman 11-27-2006, 10:11 PM What I'm working with: 1998 Grand Cherokee Lmt Ed. Rear tailgate latch work done per factory recall The Problem: Recently, a sensor related to the rear tail gate has become defective. That is, while driving down the road the Information Center thinks the tailgate is ajar and the interior light go on as if the car was parked and the tailgate was open. Symptom, when I hard turn left, the signal to the information center that the tailgate is open goes off. Going straight or right, the Information Center indicates the tailgate is open. Attempt to cure problem: So, last weekend I opened up the tailgate and found three switch's that could be the culprites. One button switch in the tailgate latching mechanism, one botton in the rear window mechanism, and on arm type switch in the lift handle mechanism. I pulled each, and none were shorting out. So I'm stumped, especially since I don't have a factory wiring diagram. 1. Is this a situation that has been covered before? I can't find a search function for this sort of thing. 2. Is there an online source for factory wiring diagrams for my ZJ? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. Please also respond to my e-mail of dahozzman@hotmail.com (dahozzman@hotmail.com) Thanks again.
