'90 trans not down shifting

as titled, I have a '90 Century Custom, 3.3lt, that is stalling when I come to a stop (unless I manually shift through L2, L1). I'm not sure of what Tranny type it is, but it doesn't appear to have overdrive (on the dash only P,R,N,D,2,1 is listed). and it is a column shift. There's 153,500 miles on it. I'm not sure what else I can tell you about it other than I've put 100,000 miles on it in the last 5 years without any Transmission trouble. Only now (of course, it happens after I've decided to sell it, and I can't in good conscience sell it with a trans prob.)
what do you think I need to look at?
thanks in advance.

since the original post I've called a few transmission shops in my area. They all said the same thing. "Sounds like a torque conv. selenoid". one guy said about $50 in parts and $250 labor, another guy said about $150 labor. I guess my new question is... does anyone know just how hard it is to do this repair "shade tree" style? I'm pretty handy (jack of all trades...master of none) but I've never gotten into a tranny before.

to test that i think you can just unplug it, i had the same problem in my grand am, i just unpluged the tccs and it worked fine, and i drove that one pretty hard, engine light was on but it worked fine

thanks for the input, but since I am trying to sell it, I don't want the engine light on. and since I really don't have the time (busy time of year and all) I'm taking it to a trans. shop.

that being said... MODERATOR, if you'd like, feel free to delete this post. but thanks for being available. I've now put AF in my favorites for future referral.

Yea, i guess i wouldnt sell it like that unless i had to either, but im selling mine as is, maybe, and it might need 4 injectors, but i dont have the money to change them even though i can do it myself in a half hour
