Transmission Question, 2000 Camry LE, 4don24mac 11-26-2006, 04:39 PM This car has 130,000 miles. And the auto transmission has been acting strange. Every third or fourth time I put it in reverse when the car has sat overnight, it just sits there for about 30 seconds to 40 seconds before grabbing and moving the car backwards. It's like it is low on fluid, but I've checked that and it's fine. The fluid has also been periodically changed at about 45,000 miles and again at about 90,000 miles. Most of the time it works fine and as soon as it is put in reverse to back out of the garage it does what it's always done and within one or two seconds starts the car moving. This situation described above only started about a month ago. Another, possibly related oddity is a noise that could be coming from the transmission. It sounds like a short 2-3 second whirring noise that I originally thought might be a vibration. This occurs once I have backed out onto the street and put the car into drive. This happens every time at that point. But, doesn't happen again until I stop the engine and again put it in drive again. I'm now wondering if it might be a bearing spinning up or something. That noise has been happening for about a year or so. And... another situation that has now happened twice in the last week. When I put the car in reverse first thing in the morning (cold) the Daytime Running Lights go out. They come back on again sometime along the drive, but I don't know when because there's no indicator. I just will eventually see their reflection in the car in front of me so I know they've come on. This does not affect being able to turn on the headlights with the switch. This car has Daytime Running Lights that are on all the time when the engine is running unless the parking brake is engaged. The parking brake is not touched when they go out. Are these signs of a tranny about to call it quits and head to the great transmission resting place in the sky? I hope not... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
