Brake light Problemsdiddy0071 11-24-2006, 07:27 PM I searched on this forum alot, for the past couple of days, and yet no solution. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. My brake light works fine, when I step on the brakes. Then, with the lightswitch on, the passenger side light turns off. I took the lights out, cleaned the contacts like I had read on these forums, and I even did the suggestion of pushing out the grounding piece of the light to get a better contact. I put the lights back on, and then, the strangest thing happened. Not a DAMN THING! I turned the lights on, and the passenger side remained off. The Driver's side lit up, but it looked as if the brake was being pressed. it was very bright. the 3rd light was bright as well. I tried the turn signal, and the passenger side still didn't work. The blinker was blinking extremely fast. The driver's side worked though. then, when I pressed on the brake, all the lights turned off. with the lights off, the brake lights don't work either. I took everything apart again, and now, the driver's side works with the lightswitch on, and the 3rd brake light does too, not bright anymore either. but as soon as I press the brake, the lights turn off. with the lightswitch off, the brakelights don't work either. I can't drive anywhere like this, and I can't find the problem. This is my only vehicle, and I need help immediately to find the problem. I am going insane!!! diddy0071 11-29-2006, 12:26 AM I searched on this forum alot, for the past couple of days, and yet no solution. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Come on, I waited 4 days, and yet nobody can find a solution? 2000Rokee 01-12-2007, 12:11 PM I am having the same problem. I actually messed around with the brake light, didn't work after i put it back in. I then noticed a couple days later that it started to work, but i had no tail lights... so...if you hear anything. . . fredjacksonsan 01-13-2007, 09:33 PM There are two things that come to mind. Either there's a short in the system, or your multifunction switch (which controls all the lights) is going bad. Does the problem exist when the lights are off, or only when they're on? If only when on, I'd suspect the switch. I had a (non Jeep) vehicle that had a similar problem, then I started blowing fuses when signaling with the lights on. I replaced the multifunction switch and that took care of it. Urgh; apologies for the late reply. 2000Rokee, please watch the date of the last post before posting; if more than 30 days, leave it be and start a new thread. I am guilty as well! 2000Rokee 01-14-2007, 05:50 PM It actually happens whether they are on or not. cbr92901 01-23-2007, 08:51 AM I had a similar prob on my '95 (if I remember correctly). The prob ended up being a short with my trailer hitch wiring - took it to a trailer guy and he re-wired me another and everything is fine. I think it was about $100 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
