I need to set the camshaft retard on my 5.7L C3500 truck. I have an Actron CP9145 Code Scanner, but when I link up to the vehicle and "view data", I don't get any data that looks like the camshaft retard. I get a timing advance reading and about 25 other sensor readings, but no camshaft retard. Do I not have the right scanner? I just spent $200 on this thing and hoped to get this info from it. What is the correct scanner to get the camshaft retard reading?

You will need a highline scanner to do this, for one I know of the Snap On mt2500, the 9145 is an entry level unit, with only the basics and no mfg specific data available.

Thanks for the reply. I'll quit trying to get something out of the scanner that it can't do.

I bought this software for my truck and it didn't work. But it is capable of doing what you want. After doing some searching on the internet I learned that the 96 & 97 vortec trucks use a different type of ODBII. The guy was really nice and offered to take it back but I declined b/c I bought it off ebay and I couldn't have bought a scan tool for half the price of what this software could do even with it not working 100%. If you have a 98 or newer and want to try it give him a call and let him know up front what you want to use it for and if it works you will not send it back. It is a little less expensive alternative... it may not work but if it does then you may have saved yourself a little chunk of change.
